The 0.27 hectares of Malbec vines are a part of the 2.5 hectare original plantings by David's father, Attilio, in 1972. This very special parcel of fruit has been an integral part of the Profondo blend, a homage to Attilio, since its inuagural release in 1999, and remains so today. Since 2015, a small portion of the Malbec has been bottled separately. This is pure essence of old vine Malbec, produced using whole berry fermentation and 18 months in old French oak barriques. This is exuberantly scented, with blueberry, rhubarb, violet and spice, deeply intense flavour and a lovely backbone of full fine tannins enhanced by a saline minerality.
